Florene Mary (Voth) Chappel

Florene Mary (Voth) Chappel was born to Paul and Lydia (Schroeder) Voth on November 23, 1927. She went to be with her Lord on July 3, 2024. Florene graduated from Little River High School and in the midst of WWII she earned a temporary teaching certificate from McPherson College. She taught for two years until her high school sweetheart, Marvin Chappel, returned home from the war. They were married on June 1, 1947. They lived and farmed in the Lyons/Saxman area for 50 years. After retirement, they moved to Hutchinson where they became faithful members of the First Baptist Church. They volunteered at Dillion Living Center and the Christian Soup Ministry and served on the board of the mission team of Haiti Love and Faith. Florene is survived by her daughters, Ronda (Mike) Miller, Reatha (Larry) Walker, Marvlyn (Raymond) Soeken, and Connie (Dexter) Klein. She has 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Florene was preceded in death by her husband, infant sister, Verna, and sisters, Ruth Adams, Helen Estus, Marguerite Myers Westrup; and one brother, Walter Voth; and her mother’s half brother, Elmer Schroeder. A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, July 8, 2024, at the First Baptist Church, Lyons, with Pastor Joel Grizzle officiating. A private family burial will follow at the Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Memorials may be given to Northern Rice County Food Bank in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
