1942-2024
Donald M. “Poppy” Cress, 82, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2024 at Wheatlands Healthcare Center, Kingman.
Don was born Feb. 3, 1942, at Holton, Kansas the son of Joe and Geneva Christ Cress. A longtime resident of Kingman County, Don farmed near Spivey and was also an aeronautical engineer for both Cessna and Boeing. Don traveled the world fixing airplanes, with stops in Ethiopia, Korea, England, Russia, Switzerland, China, Sweden and all over the U.S. Don was a ten year active duty veteran of the U.S. Navy.
On June 3, 1967, Don married Barbara Bertholf in Spivey, America; she survives. Other survivors include Missy Cress, Corey and his wife Ann, and Laura Cress; 10 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers Vernon and Verlon Cress.
Poppy loved to travel, especially spending time at their summer home in Grand Lake, Colorado. He loved spending time with family, tinkering with old cars, trucks, and tractors, and especially loved his cows.
The Cress family will receive friends and family at the Livingston Funeral Home on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A private service will be held at a later date.
