Charles "Charlie" Wilford Stokes, age 80, passed away peacefully at his home in Humboldt, Kansas on November 12, 2024.

Charlie was born on December 7, 1943 in Latham, Kansas to Bertlum and Lois (Ryan) Stokes. In 1945, the family moved to Moran, Kansas, and lived there until 1954 when they moved to La Harpe, Kansas. Charlie attended a country school near their home in Moran, then attended school in La Harpe, where he graduated high school.

On September 27, 1962, Charlie married Joyce Appling. They were married for almost 57 years, until Joyce's passing in March of 2020. Throughout their marriage, they lived in various places around Allen County, and later moved to Haysville, Kansas. Charlie worked for Nicholson Tool and Dye, Stokes and Sons Trash Service, and Haysville City Department. After Charlie's retirement, they returned to Allen County.

Charlie loved fishing, John Deere, and John Wayne.

Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; children, Tammy and Lisa; both parents; siblings, William, Virginia "Gee", Allen, Harlen, Robert, Donald, James, John, Mary, Bertlum "Junior", Darrell, Samuel, and Linda; brother-in-law, Gary Appling; and sister-in-law, Jane Snyder.

He is survived by sons, Dean (Carla) and Donnie (Kati) Stokes; grandchildren, Sam, Chloe, Kayla, Sonia, Krissy, Hannah, and Charlie; sister-in-laws, Carol Voutsinas and Mary Lou Stotler; brother-in-law, Jim Appling; and several beloved great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

A graveside memorial service for Charlie is planned for Saturday, November 23, 2024 at the Gas City Cemetery in Gas, Kansas at 10:00 AM. The family will greet friends the evening prior, on Friday, November 22, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at The Venue in Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Highway 54, Iola, Kansas.
