Cecil Floyd Sutton
1927-2024

Cecil Floyd Sutton, 97, formerly of Lyons, Kansas from 1955 until 2014, passed away October 19, 2024, at Presbyterian Manor of Newton, Kansas. He was born May 22, 1927, in McAlester, Oklahoma, the son of Roy and Ila (Adams) Sutton. Cecil grew up in the Haywood and McAlester area. He served in the United States Marine Corps form July 1945 until August 1946 at Post Headquarters in Quantico, Virginia, the 1st Special Marine brigade in Puerto Rico and at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He was united in marriage to Ruby Clagg on October 9, 1949, in McAlester, Oklahoma. Cecil had a successful 39-year career as a welder and welding instructor/inspector in the gas pipeline industry with Northern Natural Gas and Michigan Wisconsin Pipeline Company. He was highly regarded for his expertise in his craft, and he worked on the pipeline from Texas all the way north to Michigan and Wisconsin. Upon his retirement in 1989, golf became a passion, and he joined the men’s league at Lyons Town & Country Club. You could also find him working tirelessly in his yard to maintain a meticulously, well-manicured lawn. He also enjoyed fishing, his daily men’s coffee group and spending as much time as possible with his grandkids and great grandkids. Cecil was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruby; one brother and two sisters. He is survived by his three children; eight grandchildren; and twenty-two great-grandchildren. Linda and Mark Frazier of Newton, KS, and their children; Nicole and Jeff Gust of Hutchinson, KS, and their children, Adam, Aaron, Claire and Benjamin; Rachel and Mike Barron of Newton, KS, and their children, Andrew, Nathan and Matthew; Emily and James Stewart of Newton, KS, and their children, Caleb, Jacob, Kelli, Gabe, Wyatt and Lydia. Debbie and Bill Harmon of Spring, TX, and their children; Michelle and T.J. Gunnell of Hurlburt Field, FL, and their children, Kylie, Olivia, and Ella; and Lindsay and Ben Feltner of Columbus, OH, and their child, Hayes; and one brother and sister. Graveside service will be at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery, Lyons, with Pastor Nickia Larsen officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 P.M., Monday, October 21, 2024, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with family present from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be given to First Christian Church, Good Shepherd Hospice, Lyons Bell and Star Fund in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
