Betty Colleen Stanley, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2025, in Winfield, Kansas. Born on July 2, 1936, in Thayer, Kansas, Betty was a remarkable woman whose life was characterized by her dedication to family, and her career.
Betty was united in marriage to Kenneth Benson on July 6, 1954, in Fredonia, Kansas. Betty was later united in marriage to Richard Stanley in 1969 in Fredonia, Kansas, both preceded her in death.
Betty's career was impressive, spanning many years and several roles. She served for 25 years as the Manager of Distribution, dedicated 8 years to the compassion-driven work of a Mercy Hospital Nurse, and spent 10 years as the Administrator of The Manor Nursing Home. Her commitment to healthcare underscored her genuine care for others, which resonated through her professional and personal life alike.
Betty graduated in 1955 before going on to attend Chanute Nursing College, where she earned her LVN in 1970. Her education paved the way for a lifelong pursuit of knowledge and service.
Betty was a strong, independent woman who raised six children while pursuing her education and career, an accomplishment she cherished deeply. Her family was her proudest achievement, as she loved them abundantly and made it a point to celebrate each of their milestones. Known for her thoughtful nature, she always remembered to send presents to the kids on their birthdays—her love and generosity were palpable in every gesture.
Betty's interests were as diverse as her accomplishments. She loved to travel, eagerly explored shopping excursions, enjoyed watching football, and delighted in square dancing. Above all, she cherished the moments spent with her children and grandchildren, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Betty was also a member of the Rio Hondo Texas Baptist Church.
She leaves behind her children, Craig Benson of Independence, Kansas; Bruce Benson of Independence, Kansas; Kendra Benson Jarvais of Ponca City, Oklahoma; Regina Stanley Olvera of Harlingen, Texas; and Michael Brian Stanley of Temple, Texas. Betty is also survived by her sister, Peggy Morriss of Harlingen, Texas, and her grandchildren, including Travis Benson, Angie Alexandria, Kenneth Benson, Jennifer Taylor, Tomisha Jordan, Melissa Jarvais, Alicia Jarvais, Crux Gallegos, Savanna Stanley, Sabrina Stanley, and Samantha Stanley. Additionally, she is remembered fondly by her 15 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
Betty was predeceased by her husbands, Kenneth Benson and Richard Stanley; her son, Steven Ray Benson; her parents, Gene and Opal Price Tuttle; and her siblings, Robert Tuttle and Patricia Robertson.
Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Wickham Family Funeral Home in Fredonia, Kansas. A visitation will take place on Saturday, June 14, 2025, starting at 9:30 AM at the same location.
