1951-2025
Artie Lee Cook passed away at her home on the morning of October 11, 2025.
Artie was born May 16, 1951 and raised in Mount Home, Arkansas, to Archie and Fern Sisney. She was the oldest of four children and is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Ellsworth Cook. Artie is survived by her two sisters, Sharon and Catherine Ann, and her brother, James.
Artie and Ellsworth were married for 33 years, living together in Reading, Independence, and Lebo, Kansas, until his passing in 2000.
Artie lived in Lebo until June of 2001, when she moved to COF in Burlington, KS, where she made many dear friends and became an active member of the community.
Throughout her life, Artie worked hard and took pride in everything she did. She worked as a waitress in Reading and Hartford, and later at the Lebo gas station for Dean Knight Oil, where she stuffed statements in envelopes for mailing. In 2001, she began working in Burlington in the sheltered workshop as part of the employment services program. She enjoyed helping others, cleaning local offices, houses, and churches, and found great purpose and independence through her work.
Artie also gave generously of her time, volunteering for the Action Club around the holidays and at the Hive for various activities. She especially loved helping make Santa Bags for the children of Lebo for him to hand out at Christmas and donating blood to help others.
Outside of work and volunteering, Artie loved to travel. Her favorite trips were to Nashville and Branson, and she always looked forward to visiting her beloved hometown of Lebo for the Fourth of July celebrations and seeing familiar faces. Some of Artie’s happiest days were spent getting her hair and nails done and going shopping with friends while drinking coffee.
At COF, Artie met her beloved boyfriend, Alvin, who brought her great joy and companionship. Together they shared laughter, love, and countless special moments that brightened both of their lives.
Artie was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She will be remembered for her kind heart, cheerful spirit, and the love she shared with everyone around her.
A memorial service will be held 10:30 A.M. Monday, October 27, 2025, at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington.
