USD 308 BOE Approves Increase in Textbook Fees, School Meal Prices

– Textbook fees and school meal prices in Hutchinson USD 308 will be going up for the 2022-23 school year. The USD 308 Board of Education Monday approved a five dollar increase in textbook fees and a 25-cent increase in school breakfast and lunch prices.

Textbook fees for the district have not been increased since 2014, with cost of materials increasing since that time. The cost will be $65 per student, or $40 for those eligible for reduced fees.

Breakfast and lunch prices are going up for the first time since 2017. The board had been asked to consider a 15-cent increase in 2020, but at the time they opted to transfer money from the general fund and otherwise absorb cost increases. USD 308 is now at the point where an increase is needed to ensure the good financial status of their food service program.

With the increase, paid lunch prices for elementary students will increase to $2.60, for middle school students to $2.75 and for high school students to $2.95. Breakfast prices for all grades will go to $1.60. For students eligible for reduced price meals, those prices will remain unchanged. Even with the increase, USD 308 meal prices will remain below the average for similar districts.
