RENO COUNTY – A hand recount is being done on in-person advance ballots from last week’s primary election. Reno County Deputy Election Officer Jenna Fager said an issue came up last Friday during the random audit of precincts as required by law when numbers on some of the advanced ballots didn’t add up.
The problem dealt with the candidate names for the Republican nomination for State Treasurer not being in the correct order as set out by the Secretary of State’s Office. This issue was mainly on in-person advanced ballots for about the first three days of that period.
Because of that, County Clerk Donna Patton decided to recount all in-person advanced ballots, a process that was expected to be completed late Tuesday.
In a report to the Reno County Commission Tuesday, Fager said the County Clerk’s Office still has 438 provisional ballots to research from last week. To allow for sufficient time to complete that task, the canvass of votes that was supposed to take place Thursday has been postponed to Monday, August 15th at 9 a.m.
50 of the provisional ballots are in the 1st District County Commission Republican primary where Randall Parks still has a six-vote lead on Cris Corey with the inclusion of mail-in ballots having a postmark on or before Tuesday that arrived by Friday’s deadline.
As of late Tuesday afternoon, State Representative Steven Johnson of Assaria held a 375-vote lead on State Senator Caryn Tyson of Parker in the state Treasurer’s GOP primary.
