Public Hearing Set for Proposed Updates to Hutchinson Wastewater and Water Distribution Systems

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The City of Hutchinson has scheduled a public hearing for Oct. 4 at 9 a.m. at City Hall to present and discuss alternatives and proposed improvements to the wastewater collection system, wastewater treatment plant, and water distribution system. Improvements will be funded through the low-interest State Revolving Loan Fund Program being offered by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

Funding is being sought for the following improvements:

  1. Sewer collections system updates, including replacement of self-priming wet-well, mounted pumps with submersible non-clog pumps.
  2. Wastewater Treatment Plant updates consist of headworks grit removal and equipment replacement.
  3. Water distribution updates, including replacement of approximately 1.3 miles of 6-inch cast iron waterline in various locations.

The total cost of all proposed projects is estimated at just under $5 million.

Alternatives and improvements will be explained during the Oct. 4 hearing, with time offered for public questions and comments.
