Poll Shows Kansas Governor, Attorney General’s Race Neck-and-Neck

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (KNS) – A new poll shows some Democratic candidates for statewide office in deep-red Kansas running neck and neck with their Republican opponents. The Emerson College poll(link is external) shows Democratic Kansas Governor Laura Kelly leads Republican Derek Schmidt by 3%. The lead is within the margin of error, making the race virtually tied.

Schmidt’s chances may be hurt by conservative state Senator Dennis Pyle, a former Republican who is running as an independent. The poll shows 5% of voters supporting Pyle, an increase of 2% from a poll in September.

The race for Kansas attorney general is also very close. Democrat Chris Mann holds a 1% lead over Republican Kris Kobach.

Election Day is Tuesday.
