HUTCHISON – One man is in custody after two separate standoffs Tuesday just north of Hutchinson that closed a two-mile section of Plum Street.
The Reno County Sheriff’s office said in a release late Tuesday afternoon that deputies responded on two separate occasions to a location in the 6000 block of North Plum, during which they encountered James Medina. Contact with Medina was maintained throughout the day and he was eventually taken into custody without incident.
Medina is being held in the Reno County Correctional Facility on a half-million-dollar bond pending an initial court appearance, which did not appear on Wednesday morning’s criminal docket.
Reno County’s Special Response Team was part of the response along with South Hutchinson and USD 309 Police, the Kansas Department of Corrections, and other emergency responders. The case remains under investigation and reports will be turned over to the Reno County District Attorney for possible criminal charges.
