MCPHERSON – The McPherson City Commission Tuesday approved a resolution placing on the August primary election ballot a ten year, half percent, sales tax extension. The current sales tax authorization is set to expire in September 2023, but the question is being submitted to voters now as the continuation of it will factor into the city’s 2023 budget.
Proceeds from the existing sales tax funded the restoration project at the Community Building and reconstruction of a portion of East 1st Street.
If voters approve renewal of it, 70% of the proceeds will be earmarked for street and sidewalk projects, 20% for parks, 5% for law enforcement activities and 5% for support of the McPherson Museum.
Eminent Domain
Eminent domain proceedings were approved to acquire right of way for a water line connecting the city’s new well field in northwest Harvey County to the city’s distribution system. There are six tracts the city has not been able to purchase right of way for, and a survey of that property was submitted last week as part of the process.
Four of the six properties are under common ownership and are in Harvey County.
