Intrepid Brass Band Performing Patriotic Concert July 3

By Kyle Hopkins

McPherson, Kan. – The Intrepid Brass Band will be performing a patriotic concert on July 3rd at 7:30 pm in the Lakeside Park Bandshell. The concert is sponsored by the McPherson Convention & Visitors Bureau and McPherson College. Local musicians Kyle Hopkins, Director of Bands at McPherson College, and Randy Crow, Brass Instructor at McPherson College, perform in the group. The concert is free and the public is invited to bring lawn chairs and enjoy selections from a traditional brass band in the historic bandshell.

Intrepid Brass originated as a brass quintet in 2016 based out of Charlotte, NC, and is now based in Wichita, KS. Consisting of working professionals in the music field, the ensemble performs for weddings, private events, educational functions, and provides special music for a number of religious establishments. As the original members grew busier, it was inevitable that the ensemble had to shift in personnel to meet all of the requests and opportunities. Intrepid Brass at that point became a collective of musicians. This gave the organization a chance to be more than just a brass quintet; it could be any assortment of brass musicians. Intrepid Brass has performed as a duet, and as a large ensemble with percussion! The vast array of ways to combine the quintet instrumentation opened many doors for the organization.

Intrepid Brass is dedicated to the creation, performance and teaching of brass chamber music and the pursuit of quality among its ranks. Its members are well educated and experienced in a varying array of musical styles, and include composers and arrangers whose work can be heard in and out of the ensemble.
