HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Involuntary manslaughter charges have been filed against a Hutchinson man who accidentally shot a 30-year-old pregnant woman in the early morning of Friday, Nov. 4th, fatally wounding the baby she was carrying.
River Stokely, 23 of Hutchinson, was booked into the Reno County Correctional Facility Thursday evening on a $10 thousand bond.
Hutchinson Police Lt. Dustin Loepp said Stokley had been investigating a noise near the front of his residence in the 500 block of East Avenue B while armed. As he turned back into the interior of the home the gun fired and the woman, who was mid-term in her pregnancy, was struck.
The woman was treated at a Wichita hospital for her injuries and was reported in stable condition. The baby, however, was pronounced deceased on Tuesday, Nov. 8th.
