HUTCHINSON – After a delay to check on the status of liens held by Siemens Wind Power, the Hutchinson City Council Tuesday approved the sale of a lot in Salt City Business Park II to Salt City Investments LLC, the entity that is proposing to construct a spec industrial building on the lot.
While the sale price for 20 buildable acres is $100 thousand, the Siemens liens, connected to a rail line development, total $300 thousand, of which the city is on the hook for $200 thousand and the Hutchinson Reno County Chamber of Commerce $100 thousand.
City Attorney Paul Brown said he is still looking into whether the liens are still valid, as there are development and employment requirements, which at this point, with the wind turbine plant being shut down, may never happen.
According to Brown, the liens are separate from the sale of the lot, allowing the council to give final approval.
