HutchCC Trustees Approve Publication of 2022-23 Budget

HUTCHINSON – Hutchinson Community College Trustees have approved publication of a proposed 2022-23 budget that would set the mill levy at an estimated 21.869 mills. This is the same as for the past year, although the actual levy came in a bit less than that after final property valuations were set.

The published levy is slightly over 1.15 mills above the Revenue Neutral Rate. Vice President of Finance Julie Blanton told Trustees the college will receive a full allocation of state funding for the first time in 20 years, but 20 percent of that increase must be applied against property taxes needed, amounting to just over $2 million. A Hearing on the budget and exceeding the RNR will be held September 8th.

The budget includes six major capital projects for the 2022-23 year, bids for two of which were approved during the meeting. One of them is a $749,007 bid from Roof Masters for replacement of the roof at the Shears Technology Center. The replacement comes in the wake of repairs attempted over the past six years with continued leaks, damaging equipment and materials.

The other bid accepted was from Regent Education for a five-year subscription to new software in the Financial Aid office to replace a system that is nearing end of life and experiencing transmission errors.

The other budgeted projects include the conversion of tennis courts to a new open courtyard space approved earlier this year, a renovation project connected to the addition of a barbering program, a renovation project on the second floor of the Peel Allied Health building, and restroom renovations in Lockman Hall.
