Gary Meagher Approved as Interim City Manager, 5th Street Bridge Nearing Completion

– Gary Meagher began his service as interim Hutchinson City Manager this morning following approval of his contract by the Hutchinson City Council. Meagher retired as Reno County Administrator in 2019 after more 11 years in that position He served as City Administrator in McPherson and Lindsborg prior to moving to Reno County in 2009.

 
“I could be part of making the community better, working with the governing body, working with the staff, and working with community leaders to make improvements to the community,” Meagher said of his many years in governmental management.

 
He also spent 16 years in law enforcement.

 
Meagher’s contract is for an initial two-month period which can be extended on a month-to-month basis and will end when a new city manager is hired. He will be paid the same compensation as was paid to former City Manager Jeff Cantrell prior to his contract not being renewed, though he will not receive other benefits
.

Connected with Meagher’s hiring, the Council approved a resolution adding Meagher and removing Cantrell from the list of city officials authorized to handle the city’s banking business.

 
Fifth Street Bridge Project Nearing Completion
A nearly $37,000 change order on the Harsha Canal bridge repair project on West Fifth Street was approved. The change order came after the amount of damage to the concrete on the underside of the bridge was greater than first thought. Additional damage was found on the underlying concrete.

 
As things now stand the bridge could re-open by the end of the week.
