LYONS, Kan. – Brian Inwood and Todd Rowland won seats on the Sterling City Commission Tuesday. Inwood received 260 votes to 237 for Rowland, with Steve Rivas receiving 150 votes and write-ins a total of 178 votes… most believed to have been for Heidi McCullers.
In Lyons Mary Kendrick was elected to the Ward 4 City Council seat now held by Larry Walker, defeating Matthew Westenfeld 110-32. Jim Cedeno, who was appointed to fill a vacant Ward 3 seat earlier this year, won a full-term, edging John Mehl 52-46. 27 write-in votes were cast in Ward 2 where Dakota Nave did not seek re-election.
How those votes came out, along with 63 write-ins for one position on the Hospital District 2 Board in the Little River area, will be determined when the election canvass takes place.
Voters in Little River-Windom USD 444 approved a change in how board members are selected. Unofficial results from the McPherson and Rice County Clerk’s Offices indicate the question passed 263-191. With the change, all seven board members will now be elected on an at-large basis rather than two from each of the three districts and one member at large.
