Buhler USD 313 BOE Approves Publication of Proposed Budget, RNR Hearing Set

By Lucky Kidd, Ad Astra Radio

BUHLER – The Buhler USD 313 Board of Education Monday approved publication of a proposed 2022-23 budget that would carry a very marginal reduction in the district’s property tax levy. The published budget calls for a levy of 35.495 mills, which is just under 1.3 mills above the revenue neutral rate. A hearing on that budget and exceeding the RNR will be held September 12th at 5:30 p.m.

Custodial Services

Board members heard a presentation from representatives of ATS, a company that provides security and janitorial services to school districts in Kansas and across the U.S. USD 313 is looking at possibly contracting with ATS for custodial services in district buildings.

In the discussion, the potential was raised that working with ATS could also help alleviate a bus driver shortage that director of finance Shane Hecox said is still critical.

COVID-19 Protocol

USD 313’s COVID-19 protocol to start the 2022-23 school year will be the same as the 2021-22 school year ended. The Board of Education reviewed those criteria, which varies from state recommendations as it relates to close contacts.

While the state recommends contract tracing, USD 313 does not do this, which the Reno County Health Department concurs with. However, Pre-K through 5th grade families will be notified in the event there are positive cases reported in their respective classrooms.

Adult Meal Prices

Adult meal prices for the 2022-23 school year were increased to $4.75. The increase was necessary to meet the full price requirement of federal regulations.
