McPherson City Commission Notes: Purchase of New Police Tactical Vehicle Approved

MCPHERSON, Kan. – McPherson City Commissioners Tuesday approved a letter of intent to purchase a LENCO Bearcat tactical vehicle in Partnership with the McPherson County Sheriff’s Department.

The purchase of the just over $300 thousand unit will be done through a five-year lease-purchase agreement, with an annual cost to the city of $34,627.02, including interest. These funds are budgeted for the Police Department in 2023. The County will pay an equal share of the lease-purchase cost and will share in maintenance.

This unit, which can be used for entry, rescue and logistics, replaces a 2004 armored vehicle that was retired from service in 2020.

Right-of-way access

A right-of-way access agreement with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment was approved. This agreement authorizes the collection of soil and groundwater samples and temporary monitoring wells along Buckeye Street south of Woodside in connection with a subsurface investigation KDOT is conducting.

Cell poles

The Commission approved nine cram or small pole-mounted cell locations for US Cellular, subject to payment of established fees and KDOT approval.

Two of the cram sites are along Kansas Avenue east of the overpass, two are located along Avenue A near Maxwell and just east of the cemetery, three are along Main Street, one is along the Old 81 Bypass near the railroad crossing and the other is just off West Northview Road.

Emergency shelter grant

An agreement with the McPherson Housing Coalition for a 2022-23 Emergency Shelter Grant was approved. This grant covers activities between July 1st of this year and June 30, 2023, and includes funding for emergency shelters, homeless prevention, and rapid rehousing programs.

The emergency shelter funds are earmarked for the Oak Harbor project, while $2,676 is allocated to the city for administrative fees associated with grant processing. Commissioners also approved reimbursements of $791 dollars from a 2020 grant that had been re-opened due to additional funds becoming available, which leaves just over $3600 unexpended.

Vehicle purchases

McPherson City Commissioners Tuesday approved the purchase of two trucks for sewer operations. Both vehicles were purchased through Midway Motors. The total cost came to just over $129 thousand.

One truck will replace a 2002 4X4 pickup with a flatbed, while the other replaces a 1995 truck that is equipped with a flatbed and lifting crane. The two vehicles are expected to be delivered in the Summer of 2023.
