HUTCHINSON – The City of Hutchinson officially celebrates 150 years as an incorporated city in August 2022. To celebrate, the City, along with Reno County – who celebrated 150 years in 2021 – as well as Hutch Rec, the Hutch Chamber, the Reno County Historical Society, Dillons, and the Cosmosphere, are uniting to host a special community-wide event on Aug. 18.
Hutchinson and Reno County residents are invited to a Free Community Spirit Block Party on Aug. 18. This special 150th celebration will include a mile’s worth of block parties on Main Street, from Avenue C through 9th Avenue. Festivities will take place from 6-9 p.m. More than 60 businesses, organizations, civic and community groups, and non-profits will be providing free activities and entertainment throughout the celebration.
The 150th Celebration Committee is asking for both Hutchinson and Reno County residents to be a part of history in the making through a special historic 150th photograph, which will be taken prior to the evening’s activities. A professional photographer will be taking an aerial photograph of individuals creating the numbers 1-5-0. A total of 300 participants will be needed for the photograph, which is open to all residents in Hutchinson and Reno County. Participants will need to start gathering by the Crowe & Co Sherman Street entrance in Downtown Hutchinson starting at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 18. Event organizers will line up all participants at 5:45 p.m., with the photograph taken at 6 p.m.
All photo participants will be entered into a drawing to win a grand prize basket, which will be announced immediately after the picture has been taken. The grand prize gift basket includes more than $500 worth of items, including: $150 Dillons gift card and 1,000 fuel points; $150 gift card from Sleep Shoppe & Furniture Gallery; Chamber H-Bucks; Gift card from Toy Depot; (4) All-Access Mission Passes and Cosmosphere Gift Shop swag; Hutch Rec gift certificates; Splinters-N-Rust Hutch Flag tray; City of Hutchinson flag and swag; Tickets to an upcoming Family Community Theatre show; and more.
