2022 KCAC Fall Individual Championships Recap

WINFIELD, Kan. – On Saturday, September 24, the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference held the 2022 KCAC Fall Tennis Individual Championships for Men’s and Women’s Tennis in Winfield, Kansas at the T.H. Vaughn Tennis Complex. Student-athletes competed in nine flighted men’s brackets (1-6 Singles, 1-3 Doubles) and nine flighted women’s brackets (1-6 Singles, 1-3 Doubles). McPherson College brought home the most championships, winning eight of the 18 brackets.

 

MEN’S RESULTS

Michael Beltran of McPherson College took home first place in the top men’s flight, winning the Number 1 Singles Championship by defeating Jose Catala Ortiz of Oklahoma Wesleyan University 6-1, 6-4. The third-place finisher in the flight was Bryce Ware of Kansas Wesleyan University.

McPherson’s Daniel Marcano won the 2 Singles Championship with a victory over Kansas Wesleyan’s Alex Sherer 3-6, 6-3, 10-4. Oklahoma Wesleyan’s Jorge Catala Ortiz finished third in the flight.

In the Number 3 Singles Championship match, McPherson’s Martin Millos defeated Southwestern College’s Federico Poi 6-3, 6-1. Bethel College’s Tomas Quercia finished third in the flight.

Jean Paul Fort of Tabor College won the Number 4 Singles Championship with a 6-7 (7-5), 6-0, 10-5 victory over Kansas Wesleyan’s Garrison Wright. McPherson’s Trey Murphy took third.

With a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Southwestern College’s Santiago Marin, Oscar Brouwer of McPherson College won the Number 5 Singles Championship. Adam Hanson of Kansas Wesleyan University took third in the flight.

In the final singles flight on the men’s side, Zhiyuan Wei of McPherson College won the Number 6 Singles Championship with a victory over Tabor College’s Elvis Ghomsi by a score of 6-4, 6-2. Collin Phelps of Kansas Wesleyan University finished third.

The Number 1 Doubles Champion was McPherson College with a team of Michael Beltran and Martin Millos who defeated Kansas Wesleyan’s Bryce Ware and Alex Sherer 8-5. Bethel College’s Milan Bucek and Tomas Quercia finished third.

Ottawa University’s Oscar Giorgia and Austin Ramirez won the Number 2 Doubles Championship with a 9-7 victory over Southwestern College’s Federico Poi and Logan Engela. McPherson College’s Daniel Marcano and Oscar Brouwer took third in the flight.

The Number 3 Doubles Championship was won by McPherson’s Trey Murphy and Zhiyuan Wei, who defeated Southwestern’s Vicente Tricio and Santiago Marin 8-4. Jacob Phelps and Adam Hanson of Kansas Wesleyan finished third.


 

WOMEN’S RESULTS

Catherine Coe of Southwestern College won the women’s top flight, defeating Oklahoma Wesleyan’s Cori Campbell 6-1, 6-1 in the Number 1 Singles Championship. Camila Sanchez of McPherson College finished in third place.

In the Number 2 Singles Championship, Daniela Herrera of Bethel College defeated Rachel Chaney of Evangel University 6-1, 6-1 to take home the title. Mariana Ochoa of Southwestern College finished third in the flight.

The Number 3 Singles Champion was Jasmin Hauska of Southwestern College, who defeated Lola Federski of Evangel in the finals 6-1, 6-1. Halle Krehbiel of Bethel College finished third.

Ella Hartnett of Southwestern College won the Number 4 Singles Championship, defeating Bethel College’s Jenna Mahoney in the final match 2-6, 7-6 (7-3), 10-3. Kendra Maples of McPherson College finished third.

McPherson College’s Kayla Ortiz won the Number 5 Singles Championship, defeating Grace Roberts from Southwestern College 6-2, 6-2. Nalea Payton of Bethel College finished in third place in the flight.

Bethel College’s Patty Huerta won the Number 6 Singles Championship with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Bethany Overturf of Evangel in the championship match. Britley Butler of Kansas Wesleyan University finished in third place.

The Number 1 Doubles Champion was Bethel College with their team of Daniela Herrera and Fatima Nemi, who defeated McPherson’s Camila Sanchez and Kayla Ortiz 9-8 (10-8) in the championship match. Southwestern’s Catherine Coe and Mariana Ochoa finished third.

Southwestern College’s Jasmin Hauska and Ella Hartnett won the Number 2 Doubles Championship with an 8-2 victory over Bethany College’s Tia Gregory and Piper Marquez. Kendra Maples and Grace Maxey of McPherson College finished third.

Bethel College’s Nalea Payton and Jenna Mahoney won the Number 3 Doubles Championship with an 8-4 victory over Evangel University’s Maddeline Peters and Faith Taylor. Paetn Mitchell and Grace Roberts of Southwestern College finished third.

The KCAC Tennis regular season schedule begins on Thursday, March 16, 2023. Twelve men’s and 12 women’s teams will compete throughout the regular season, vying for the chance to compete in the KCAC Tennis Championships in Topeka, Kansas at the Kossover Tennis Complex on April 27-29, 2023.
