Warm temps expected to delay full harvest for Minn-Dak Co-op

The vice president of agriculture for Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative says pre-pile sugarbeet harvest is going well despite the dry conditions.

Mike Metzger says the cooperative is expecting a sugarbeet crop in the mid-to-upper 20 tons per acre and 18% sugar content.

“I dub it the Goldilocks crop: it’s not really too big, not too small, with the yield and quality it’s just right for us.”

But dry, warm conditions can make it challenging to store sugarbeets for the months it takes to process, especially if there’s not much mud to protect the beets from getting damaged.
