The U.S. Trade Representative’s office has issued an annual report showing significant trade barriers still exist for agricultural and other U.S. goods.

The 2023 National Trade Estimate Report on Foreign Trade Barriers says China’s food product facility registrations and labeling are “opaque and burdensome.” The report also criticized Indonesia’s facility registration requirements for dairy, beef, and rendered foods.

The U.S. Trade Representative again criticized Mexico’s policies on agricultural biotechnology and their planned ban of genetically modified corn, and the European Union’s restrictions of crop protection policies, which the USTR says is not science-based.
