Syngenta discusses Enogen sustainability research

A recent study on Enogen corn assesses its sustainability and financial benefits to dairy farmers.

Chris Cook, head of the Enogen business for Syngenta, tells Brownfield an enzyme in the corn helps animals digest it more effectively, which means fewer resources are needed to feed cows.

“It’s going to take about 250 less acres to feed the same number of dairy cows,” he shares.  “It’s about 314 cars off the road, it’s nearly 13 million less gallons of water used on 1,000 cows.”

The life cycle assessment, in partnership with the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Animal and Dairy Sciences and Agronomy Departments and Rock River Laboratory, also found a financial savings of up to $208 per cow annually.
