Soybean harvest and field day delayed

A soybean educator says dry conditions this spring are delaying the onset of harvest.

Mike Staton with Michigan State University Extension tells Brownfield germination issues and a lack of rain in June has set back crop development.

“Even the crop that was up and out of the ground that emerged normally experienced really dry conditions and that delayed the flowering,” he explains.  “If you have a delay of flowering, you’ve delayed the whole rest of the season.”

Staton says Michigan crops are about 7 to 10 days behind and uneven emergence in fields will make the timing of harvest crucial.
