South Dakota soil moisture improves

SHARE NOW

A wet January helped soil moisture levels in South Dakota.

The USDA says 75% of topsoil and 65% of subsoil now have adequate to surplus soil moisture levels, and while drought remains in parts of the state, that’s still significantly better than at the start of 2023.

53% of winter wheat in South Dakota is reported as good to excellent, compared to 54% a month ago, with just 22% of the crop called good a year ago.
