Rains breaking-out on the Plains, summer-like warmth continues across the Corn Belt

SHARE NOW

Across the Corn Belt, stunning, late-season warmth prevails.  The summer-like heat favors a rapid pace of corn and soybean maturation and harvesting, although dry weather is further reducing soil moisture for newly planted winter grains and cover crops.  On October 1, monthly record high temperatures were tied or broken in numerous Midwestern locations, including Sioux Falls, South Dakota (95°F), and Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota (92°F).

On the Plains, record-setting warmth continues in many areas, although somewhat cooler air is in place across Montana and the western Dakotas.
