The USDA says farmers planted more upland cotton acres in 2022 than in 2021 while planting fewer acres of rice.
Upland cotton planting totaled 12.322 million acres, 11% above a year ago, with increases in 16 of the 17 top production states.
Rice planted area totaled 2.343 million acres, 7% less than last year, including a 3% year-to-year decline for long grain rice to 1.905 million and a 21% drop for medium grain to 417,000.
