Northwest Iowa farmer says soybeans struggled with soil crusting

Northwest Iowa farmer Jolene Riessen says wet conditions impacted soybean emergence.

“Corn came up really well. Beans, we fought some crust. And I like to shoot for 150,000 seeds (per acre), so doing stand counts, my weakest field was 128,000 so glad I put out the extra seed.”

She tells Brownfield corn is really taking off.

“It’s in the 5-leaf stage, so we just finished up doing some spraying and now we’ll switch over and start spraying some beans to get those weeds under control because wow, when it rains it not only grows crops, it grows weeds.
