Michigan crop maturity advances

Crops are rapidly catching up in maturity across Michigan.

Neil French with ADM tells Brownfield he expects to see most of dry bean harvest wrap up in the coming weeks for growers in the Thumb.

“The next two weeks, we’ll take another 15-20 percent of the crop, so we’ll be pushing 80-90% complete,” he says.

As of last Sunday, the USDA says dry beans are 95 percent dropping leaves, 33 percent harvested, and the crop is rated 15 percent good to excellent. 

Corn is rated at 56 percent good to excellent with 83 percent dented, and 22 percent mature.  Only one percent of corn has been harvested for grain and 46 percent for silage.
