The head of the Michigan Agritourism Association says consumers are looking for ways to be as close to the farmer as possible.
Janice Benson is the organization’s executive director.
“People really want those hands-on experiences, additional classes, workshops, tours with the farmer, dinners on the farm, literally immersive experiences,” she says.
She tells Brownfield demand remains high for agritourism and it helps to diversify a farm’s revenue.
“It helps to protect against challenging weather and market fluctuation,” she says.
