Late-season warmth on much of the Plains; unsettled weather across parts of the Corn Belt

SHARE NOW

Across the Corn Belt, showers—currently focused across southern Wisconsin and portions of neighboring states—continue to slide southeastward.  Wednesday’s high temperatures will remain below 70°F in portions of the upper Great Lakes region—but will reach 80°F or higher in parts of the southern Corn Belt.  Despite some minor crop developmental delays in the eastern Corn Belt, overall maturation of Midwestern summer crops is occurring at a faster-than-normal pace.  For example, 70% of the U.S. corn was fully mature by September 24, well ahead of the 5-year average of 60%.
