Iowa gets end of year precipitation, needs more

Iowa’s 2023 ended with some much-needed precipitation.

The USDA says late year snow and rain have boosted soil moisture at least a little bit, but more will be needed for the 2024 planting season.

Mild temperatures did allow farmers to increase applications of manure, lime, and fertilizer.

Iowa’s livestock are reportedly in generally good condition, but water and hay are short in some areas and pasture conditions are a concern because of the dry weather.
