Indiana farmers took advantage of early-week weather for fieldwork

The dry beginning of last week helped farmers get in the fields and make significant progress.

USDA reporters say both corn and soybean plantings surpassed the five-year averages until rains slowed field activity late in the week.  That same wet weather also hindered haying and some spraying activities.

As of Sunday, 81% of Indiana’s corn is planted with 58% of the corn emerged.

Seventy percent of the soybeans are planted with 45% of the crop emerged.
