The 2022 Census of Agriculture shows the number of farms in Indiana is declining while farm size is increasing.

State statistician Nathanial Warenski tells Brownfield, “The mix of commodities has not changed a whole lot.” “The number of farms has decreased more than a little bit, down 4 percent to 53,599,” he says.

Along with the loss of more than 3,000 farms, Indiana has lost nearly 370,000 acres of farmland since 2017.
