High oleic trait expands this winter

The director of licensing and commercialization at Missouri Soybeans says a non-GMO high oleic soybean trait is expanding its presence this winter.

Bryan Stobaugh tells Brownfield there will be new maturity groups for northern varieties of SOYLEIC available for producers.

“Northern varieties are coming out of Minnesota, North Dakota, Wisconsin and early maturing varieties are coming to the northeast. That’s for dairy production in New York and Pennsylvania.”

Stobaugh says SOYLEIC was the first commercially available high oleic soybean trait in the northern United States and…

“We’re working to get even earlier, the zero maturity group, with the help of North Dakota State University.”

He says high oleic soybeans produce a healthier cooking oil that stores well.
