Fieldwork on rain delay for northern Illinois farmer

Wet conditions are preventing fieldwork in much of Illinois, but a farmer in the northern third is optimistic for timely planting.

Ryan Frieders of Waterman in DeKalb County tells Brownfield they got two inches of rain last week on top of already saturated soils.

“Planting is always on the radar. I’ve got the tractor in the shed hooked up to the planter, ready to go, and pointed out the door, but right now we are pretty wet.”

He says with more rain in the forecast he doesn’t expect to make much progress this week, and while he is anxious to be in the field, there is still plenty of time.
