Another pork line speed extension possible

A decision is coming soon on pork processing line speeds, and industry leaders are optimistic.

Since the end of November, six U.S. pork processors have been operating under an extended USDA trial of the Swine Slaughter Inspection Service to allow third-party worker safety experts to gather more data.  Luke Wall with the National Pork Producers Council tells Brownfield the extension might get extended again. “We have a 90-day trial that started at the end of November and that will expire at the end of February but we’re very confident that we’re working with USDA to get possibly a year extension.”

Wall says the increased line speeds have worked, providing more pork products without problems.
