Messiah Festival of the Arts-“Rejoice, Greatly!”

Bethany College and Lindsborg offer many opportunities to participate in the 143rd Messiah Festival of the Arts. The theme for this year’s festival is “Rejoice, Greatly!”

Through April 21: Midwest Art Exhibition at the Birger Sandzén Memorial Gallery

March 1-31: Lindsborg Collects Lindsborg Art, an exhibition of art by Lindsborg artists collected by Lindsborg residents. This exhibition is held at the Smoky Valley Arts and Folklife Center, 114 1/2 S. Main Street.

March 18-April 1: Attend the Messiah Juried Student Art Exhibition at Mingenback Art Center, located on the campus of Bethany College335 E. Swensson Street.

March 22: The Jazz Walk, downtown Lindsborg

March 25: Altar Paintings of the Smoky Valley–a presentation by Tom Holmquist and Bill Gesnius, 7:30pm in Pearson Chapel on the campus of Bethany College, 335 E. Swesson Street.

March 26: Messiah Soloists Recital, 7:30pm at Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church, 402 N. First Street.

March 26: Bethany College Student Honors Recital, 2:30pm, Pearson Chapel located on the campus of Bethany College335 E. Swensson Street.

March 29: Bach’s Passion According to St. Matthew, 7:30pm in Presser Hall Auditorium, located on the campus of Bethany College335 E. Swensson Street.

March 31: Handel’s Messiah, 3:00pm in Presser Hall Auditorium, located on the campus of Bethany College335 E. Swensson Street.

The Bethany Oratorio Society has performed Handel’s Messiah every year since 1882 and Bach’s The Passion According to St. Matthew since 1929. Soloists for this year are Rebecca Myers, soprano; Alexandra Colaizzi, mezzo-soprano; James Reese, tenor; and John Buffett, bass. Leslie John Flanagan, baritone, will also be featured in the performance of The Passion According to St. Matthew.
