There are fundraisers for Iola Assistant Fire Chief Eric B’Hymer, who last month was diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer. The Iola Fire Department and Elks Lodge are pooling resources to raise funds to help Eric and his family with medical bills and other expenses.

The day starts with a pancake feed from 7 -noon at the Bass North Community Building.

That’s also the location of a cornhole tournament with registration beginning at 11 and competition starting at 1. It will be conducted on ACA rules, and is double elimination. Entry fee is $40/team, and that can be done on site or via ScoreHolio by searching for Eric B’Hymer Benefit Tournament. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three teams.

Saturday evening there will be a pulled pork sandwich meal at the Elks Lodge. For $12/plate you’ll get a sandwich along with baked beans, mac and cheese, dessert, tea and lemonade. Cash bar available.

There is also a gun raffle, you can get tickets for it for $10 from any Iola firefighter, at the Iola Fire Department, or the Humboldt and Moran EMS stations. You have to be 18 to purchase raffle tickets and a background check will be performed.

The drawing for that will be held April 16th at 7 PM at the Fire Stations.
