Good morning! My name is Kayla Knavel and I am one of four women putting on a fundraiser benefit for a family who is very near and dear to my heart. Chris Comstock is the proud father of four children, two grown boys in their 20’s and two girls who are in their early teenage years. Chris is married to a wonderful woman named Kim and she is such a fantastic support for him.

Back in 1984, Chris was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD). Between the years 1984 and 2020, the only issue he had with the disease was managing his blood pressure. Chris had worked on the railroad for nearly 20 years as he was the sole provider to his family. In 2020, Chris suffered a stroke while on the road. As he recovered from the stroke, symptoms started to arise associated with the PKD over time.

In the last six months, Chris has taken huge hits to his health. His first stay at KU Medical Center was 6 weeks long. During this stay, his kidney team started him on dialysis three times a week and he went into cardiac arrest on April 1st and was on a ventilator for 9 days.

After recovering, he was released for a brief few weeks before another cyst ruptured. This stay caused Chris to go sepsis and was admitted for another 9 days. During these stays at KU Medical Center, his kidney team concluded that the best fit for Chris would be to have both of his kidneys removed and continue dialysis three times a week.

On August 14th, Chris had a bilateral nephrectomy, which is the procedure to remove both kidneys at the same time. On October 2nd, Chris meets with his team in hopes of getting put back on the transplant list since he has been paused the last 6 months due to the extreme stress his body has been under.

Kim works at the Southeast Kansas Mental Health Center in Humboldt, Kansas which the family has resided for the last 25 years. Kim is fortunate enough to work from the hospital to have a source of income to keep things afloat for her girls at home. Family and good friends have stepped in to stay at their home with the girls to keep the pieces together to make it less stressful for Chris and Kim and keep a halfway normal routine for the girls in school.

With all of this said, myself and three other women are putting on a fundraiser for this family. On November 23rd, 2024 we are doing a free will donation chili feed, a gun raffle, a silent auction, and potentially a raffle table.

If you would like to donate some items or even be a sponsor for this fundraiser, it would be extremely appreciated and credit would not go unnoticed! This is a great cause for a wonderful family.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I hope to hear from you!
