Wisconsin farmers take advantage of dry weather

A warm and mostly dry week allowed Wisconsin farmers to continue harvesting silage and hay.

USDA’s latest weekly crop report says with more than five days suitable for fieldwork, silage chopping advanced to 20 percent.  That’s more than a week behind a year ago and six days behind the five-year average.

The fourth cutting of alfalfa eclipsed 80 percent and is running nearly two weeks ahead of normal.

Corn and soybean development is running close to average, the oat harvest is winding down, and potatoes are 45 percent harvested.
