Soybeans fight through soil crust in northern Iowa

An agronomist in northern Iowa says soybeans weathered some difficult conditions following planting.

Jed Norman with LG Seeds tells Brownfield once planters were put away, his area received pounding rains followed by high heat, strong winds and dryness.

“Which caused a little bit of a crust in some spots, but we were able to have a rain or two come through that softened some things on the top and allowed these beans to pop out of the ground and I think have a fairly decent stand today.”

He says some farmers did have to replant.
