Axne backs Lower Food and Fuel Costs Act

U.S. Representative Cindy Axne of Iowa says the House-passed Lower Food and Fuel Costs Act is designed to help consumers free up disposable income.

“We’re bringing prices down for folks. We know they are hurting at the pump and when they are picking things up at the grocery store, specifically meat.”

Axne says the bill would help lower meat and poultry prices by increasing market competition. “Ensuring there’s oversight to make sure pricing is appropriate,” she said, “and that there isn’t any gouging of pricing going on.”

She tells Brownfield it also authorizes $750 million under USDA’s Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) to incentivize nutrient management planning.
