Wellington, Kan. – The McPherson Pipeliners played their 4th straight road game to open the season Tuesday, as they took on the Wellington Heat.
Offensively they would have their opportunities on the base paths, but so far this season they’ve struggled to collect that “big hit.”
The Pipeliners would get on the board with a stolen base in the second, but the Heat would answer in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 1. McPherson would later tie the game at 2, on a Jaron Brown single. Zach Reynolds would get the start on the mound, and Robl said, “Defensively we played a pretty clean game other than the sixth inning.”
Wellington’s 5-run sixth inning would be the difference, and they would add an additional run in the seventh, to win 8-2.
Robl would say, “The guys are going to get a much-needed day off tomorrow to reset, and make some key adjustments.” He concluded by saying, “We are close to clicking as a unit, and it’s still early in the summer.”
The Pipeliners next game has been moved, and their home opener will take place Sunday, against the El Dorado Walnuts at Bulldog Park with the first pitch set for 1 pm.
