Monarchs Open NBC World Series at Home Ballpark Thursday

By Brad Hallier

HUTCHINSON – The Hutchinson Monarchs will make their fifth straight NBC World Series appearance, and 11th overall, today when they take on 316 Elite in the 6 p.m. game at Hobart-Detter Field. Hobart-Detter Field, which has hosted NBC World Series games since 2020, will have four games today, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The action starts at noon today and Friday.

The Monarchs, which finished in third place in 2020, will take on fellow Sunflower Collegiate League member 316 Elite, which advanced to the World Series after winning a qualifying tournament. The Monarchs earned their bid as the league runner-up to Cheney. They swept a four-game series from 316 in June.

The Monarchs were drawn into Pool A, along with 316 Elite, Lonestar Baseball Club out of Texas, and OKC D-Bat Collegiate out of Oklahoma. The top two teams in each of the four pools will advance to a single-elimination bracket next week at Eck Stadium on the Wichita State campus.

The Monarchs will next play Saturday, with the time and opponent to be decided after today’s games. Other games slated for today include: Lonestar Baseball Club vs. OKC D-Bat Collegiate, noon; Austin, Texas, Shockers vs. Hays Larks, 3 p.m.; Seattle Studs vs. Lonestar, Texas, Kraken.

Tickets start at $12, and a ticket for every Hutchinson session is $40.
