Able Named Interim Men’s and Women’s Golf Head Coach at Bethany

Lindsborg, Kan. (KCAC) – Bethany College and the Department of Athletics announced Wednesday Zach Able has been named the Interim Head Men’s and Women’s Golf Coach.

“We are excited for Coach Able to lead the golf programs this coming year!” said Dean of Athletics Laura Moreno. “We are confident he will continue to lead Swedes Golf in a way that promotes preparation, development, and success both on and off the course and in our community. Coach Able’s familiarity with Bethany, Lindsborg, and Swedes Athletics provides an immediate positive impact throughout this transition, and we look forward to seeing what Swedes Golf accomplishes over this next year!”

Able spent the 2022 spring season as the Assistant Men’s and Women’s Golf Coach and Sports Information Assistant. While assisting former Head Men’s and Women’s Golf Coach Oliver Rubenstein, who recently departed Bethany to accepted a Division I women’s golf assistant position, both men’s and women’s golf finished as the KCAC Runner-Up. Ida Lihufvudh of Swedes Women’s Golf was crowned the KCAC Individual Champion, and went on to tie for 21st at the NAIA National Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla. Lihufvudh’s finish marked the best Nationals finish of any Bethany women’s golf student-athlete in school history.

During his time as assistant, Able helped with on-course coaching, implementing practice plans, daily operations, leading the off-season weights program, and other various activities. On the Sports Information side, Able has significant experience in stats, live stream, game management, and all pertinent game day operations for various sports.

“I want to thank Laura Moreno and everyone else at Bethany College who has helped me get to this position,” Able said. “I am extremely honored to be able to lead these outstanding golf programs. I am excited to work with the student-athletes in their journey here at Bethany College. Both the men’s and women’s teams have had great success and I look forward to continuing the tradition!”

Able also spent four years as a Student Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach. He assisted with daily operations, recruiting, scouting, and on-court coaching in practice and games at both the junior varsity and varsity levels.

Outside of Bethany, Able has served as the Recreation Assistant for the City of Lindsborg since May 2019. He assists the Recreation Director with daily tasks as well as office work, facilities, and managing games/events.

Able is a 2021 graduate of Bethany College with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management/Sports Management and a Coaching minor.
